Why is the Nintendo Wii So Popular?

The debut of the Nintendo Wii was one of the most successful launches of all time. This innovative take on game systems came at a time when consumers were looking for something new and Nintendo definitely delivered. Not only was the Nintendo Wii a new way to play video games, it managed to target a vast demographic that other competing systems have yet to really match. Most gamers tend to be young boys and even adult men. Of course there are female gamers but for a long time, the video game world was dominated by young males. The presence of the Wii is starting to change that.

Not only are more females becoming enamored with the Nintendo Wii, whole families are joining the bandwagon. Young and old, male or female, the Wii has made it its goal to get as many people to experience their games as possible.

The Wii makes the gamer literally become a part of the game they are playing. The special game controller is hand held and designed to mimic the actions of the player and apply it to the video game character they are playing. For example, if you are playing a Wii bowling game, you will have to assume the stance of a bowler and do the action of throwing the ball. As long as the controller is in your hand and the right buttons are being pushed, your video game character will do the same actions and movements that you are doing in real life.

Unlike the Wii, the Nintendo Wee is not a gaming system—it is a mini DVD player. While some consumers may get the two confused, it is important to note that even though the packaging and the logos are the same, the Nintendo Wee is only for playing DVDs and will not operate video games. So if you’ve got a Nintendo Wee for watching movies but want to play video games, you’ll have to pick up a Nintendo Wii.
